THE GREENWOOD DEPOT MUSEUM

The railroad was an important part of Greenwood history. In 1976, the Greenwood Historical Society was formed and their main purpose was to move the depot, which was going to be destroyed, from the railroad tracks to the park. Their purpose: turn it into a depot museum full of Greenwood history.

In 2012, society members took on the job of reorganizing the depot. Items that have been collected for the past 36 years were cataloged, moved, cleaned and repaired and the depot took on the looks of three different rooms

The front room, which was the waiting room of the depot, is the school room. Here you will find all the class pictures from the Greenwood school as well as trophies, school uniforms, and family genealogies.

The second room, which was the ticket room, has been turned into a railroad room where memorabilia from early railroad days is on display.

The back room, the baggage room, is full of Greenwood business history, military history and items that could be found in homes back in the day.

Greenwood was settled in 1869 and within four years, the town consisted of a depot, post office, two stores and a small group of residences. Its history can be found by visiting the Greenwood Depot Museum located in Central Park in Greenwood Nebraska.
